Postdoctoral Associate, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY
The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at Cornell University is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position to work on social science dimensions of municipal land-use planning in the Hudson River Estuary. The postdoctoral associate will join a dynamic intellectual community in the Center for Conservation Social Sciences while also grounding their work in a longstanding Cornell partnership with the Hudson River Estuary Program. Topics include: 1) the intersections of climate justice and land-use planning, 2) assessing the impact of various land-use policies and policy tools on biodiversity, 3) investigating how land-use decisions and biodiversity have varied over time, and 4) evaluation research on conservation capacity-building programs for local governments. Duties include designing and implementing research; manuscript preparation for publication in refereed journals; working collaboratively with project partners and stakeholders; management and coordination of research including budgeting and reporting; and grant development in support of research efforts.
The position location is Ithaca, NY and is currently contracted for two years with the possibility for extension to a third year. The initial appointment begins Aug. 15, 2021. The position is 80% research and 20% program management. Appointment will be made for 1 year initially with the possibility of annual renewals for an additional 2 years, contingent on funding, available work and performance.

We are searching for a highly motivated and skilled postdoc who has:
- A Ph.D. in social sciences combined with some aspect of environmental sciences or conservation biology
- Local government and municipal planning as area of competence
- Proven management skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Affinity with working in an interdisciplinary team
- Strong collaboration skills in working with partners and stakeholders
- Proven organizational skills and the ability to work independently while adhering to tight timelines
- Experience in GIS and spatial mapping and modeling is preferable.
Supervised by Dr. Shorna Allred, Associate Professor, Center for Conservation Social Sciences, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment and Department of Global Development.
