The 2022 calendar year (Volume 35 of the journal), is the second full year of Kristin Floress and Emily S. Huff’s appointment as Editors-in-Chief. To date, issues 1-3 have been published online. The printed journal for the first quarter mailing of Volume 35 will be mailed in the coming weeks.
The Editors-in-Chief greatly appreciate the strong, supportive role SNR‘s Book Review Editors Claudia Benham (James Cook University, Townsville, Australia) and Laura Verbrugge (University of Aalto, Espoo, Finland) and SNR’s Associate Editors play in the editorial review process. The Editors-in-Chief also wish to thank all Editorial Board Members for their invaluable, ongoing contribution in the review process of manuscripts submitted to SNR. 7th Annual “Rabel J. Burdge and Donald R. Field Outstanding Article Award”
The Editors and Editorial Board of Society & Natural Resources are pleased to announce the winner of SNR’s “Rabel J. Burdge and Donald R. Field Outstanding Article Award” for papers published in 2021!
The winning article, judged the best general research article in SNR in 2021, is by Matthew Gardner Kelly & Kai A. Schafft, for their SNR 34(1) article “A ‘Resource Curse’ for Education?: Deepening Education Disparities in Pennsylvania’s Shale Gas Boomtowns.” This award is supported with a $500 cash prize by SNR’s publisher, Taylor & Francis.
Kelly and Schafft’s article was selected through a competitive process by Society & Natu¬ral Resources’ Editor-in-Chief, Kristin Floress and SNR Editorial Board members Jesse Caputo (University of Massachusetts, USA), Chieh-Lu Li (National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan), Everisto Mapedza (International Water Management Institute, Sri Lanka), Thomas Thaler (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Austria), and Aaron Thompson (Purdue University, USA).
The Paper Award Committee selected Kelly and Schafft’s article because of its innovative and meaningful contribution to the study of society and natural resources and its promise to be influential over time.
Kelly and Schafft will be formally recognized at the IASNR All Member’s Meeting at the 2022 IASNR Conference (formerly ISSRM) in Costa Rica, June 26–29, 2022, and on the IASNR website and social media pages.

What is at Stake? The Ontological Dimension of Environmental Conflict. Guest Editors include Riccarda Flemmer (University of Hamburg), Verena Gresz (University of Hamburg), and Jonas Hein (University of Kiel).
Conservation, Natural Resources, & Environmental Protection in Africa. Guest Editors include Frank Matose (University of Cape Town – Rondebosch, South Africa ), Lotsmart Fonjong (State University of New York – Syracuse, NY, USA), & David A. Sonnenfeld (State University of New York – Syracuse, NY, USA).
