The University of Wisconsin Aquatic Sciences Center (ASC) is a UW-Madison program of multidisciplinary research, education and outreach dedicated to the protection and sustainable us of Wisconsin’s water resources – our lakes, rivers, and groundwater – as well as Wisconsin waters of Lakes Michigan and Superior. Together with other funding activities compatible with the ASC mission, the Center administers two major multidisciplinary, system-wide research programs – the Sea Grant Institute (SGI), focusing on the protection and sustainable use of the nation’s Great Lakes, and the Water Resources Institute (WRI), focusing on solutions to Wisconsin’s present and emerging water resources issues. Both SGI and WRI function as grant agencies and administer National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)-Sea Grant and United States Geological Survey (USGS)-Water Resources funding in the state, awarding over $1.6 million in competitive funding annually to Wisconsin public and private universities and colleges. In addition, ASC serves as the administrative home for [email protected], a volunteer-based, grassroots community of practice that seeks to build bridges among the departments and the many faculty, staff, and students with water interests on campus and beyond.
This position would provide organizational leadership for all aspects of [email protected], including annual events, communications, and new initiatives as well as the coordination of a summer research opportunity program for undergraduates. This position would also assist in all aspects of research and fellowship programming for the Aquatic Sciences Center including developing calls for proposals, coordinating the proposal review process and reporting, and developing and implementing postgraduate fellowship training opportunities.
